2.5. Building materials The Gotthard-granite is exceptional as building material. It would make no sense not to use it and instead to introduce stranger materials. The granite is to be used either as rough-material or polished. The excavation could be used directly for topografic changes, for example for the shaping of the golf course. Because of the huge amount of glass (windows, roof) the sunlight will optimally been used. A eyecatcher is the curved glass roof. 2.6. Energy production The electricity and warm water demand is covered owing to the integrated solar and heat pump technology over the whole year. Core project of the hotel complex, the building of a combined heat pump system, is comparable with the existing plant in the highway-garage in Airolo. It converts the energy potential of the tunnel water into warmth.
The Gotthard tube (A2, E35) pass through exactly underneath the hotel complex. We don't know the temperature in the tube, but we know that in the NEAT basetunnel temperatures of up to 45°C have been measured(!). We proceed from a constant temperature of approx. 20°C.
